Breyer Paddock Pals: Smokey Horse vs Cherry Unicorn

Category: Comparisons
Smokey and Cherry are both Paddock Pals figures for ages 3 and up, but they suit different play styles. Here is how to choose between the horse and the unicorn.
Quick answer
Choose Smokey if your child wants a realistic horse figure to start or add to a Paddock Pals collection. Choose Cherry if a unicorn's fantasy look is more likely to spark play, especially at its lower catalog price.
Realism versus fantasy appeal
The clearest difference is the character itself. Smokey is a horse figure from the Paddock Pals collection, so it fits horse-themed play, stable setups, and collections that lean toward real breeds and riding scenes. Cherry is a unicorn with a cherry-themed name and appearance, which gives it a more playful, fantasy identity.
That matters when you are buying for a specific child. A horse lover who already talks about breeds, grooming, or riding will usually get more from Smokey. A child drawn to unicorns, bright characters, or imaginary adventures will likely reach for Cherry more often.
Price and value
At the time of writing, the catalog lists Smokey at USD 11.24 against a comparison price of USD 14.99, and Cherry at USD 10.79 against the same USD 14.99 comparison price. Both sit under the comparison price, but Cherry is the lower-priced option by a small margin.
If you are buying one figure as a small gift, that gap is minor. If you are buying several figures to build a collection, the difference adds up and may make Cherry the easier starting point.
What both figures share
Both are part of the Breyer Paddock Pals line and are suitable for children ages 3 years and up. Both are collectible toys that encourage imaginative play, so the choice is really about which character will get picked up more often, not about a difference in age suitability or play category.
Trade-offs to weigh before you buy
- Realism vs. fantasy: Smokey gives you a realistic horse for breed, stable, or riding play. Cherry gives you a unicorn with a cherry theme for imaginary and character-driven play. Pick the one that matches the stories your child already tells. If your child has no strong preference, start with the character type they already pretend to be.
- Price difference: Cherry is listed at USD 10.79 and Smokey at USD 11.24, both against a USD 14.99 comparison price. The gap is small for one figure but matters if you are buying a set. For a multi-figure collection, compare the total against your budget before choosing.
- Collection fit: Both are collectible Paddock Pals figures for ages 3 and up. If you already own Paddock Pals horses, Smokey keeps the theme consistent. If you want variety, Cherry adds a fantasy character. Check what is already in the collection before adding a duplicate character type.
